Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday distributed free tablets to over 6 lakh Class 11 students studying in government and aided schools, as part of the Pudhumai Penn and Illam Thedi Kalvi schemes.
The tablets, pre-loaded with NCERT textbooks, Tamil Nadu state board syllabus content, and Khan Academy offline learning tools, cost the state exchequer approximately ₹850 crore.
Each device comes with a SIM card offering 2GB of free data per day for 365 days, ensuring students in rural areas with limited WiFi access can still benefit.
The initiative was praised by teachers as a step toward bridging the digital divide, with many rural students receiving their first personal digital device.
